Clinic Director, Avera

B.B.A. Health Services Administration, 2010

"The USD alumni network here and across the country is strong. Use it. You’d be surprised at the number of Coyotes doing incredible things in business, the arts, and medicine who are happy to offer support and insight to eager students. Don’t be afraid to introduce yourself via e-mail, invite that person to coffee, or seek guidance from individuals doing things that you would like to do someday."

Q&A with Patrick:

Describe your current educational or professional pursuits.

After obtaining my BBA in health services administration from USD in 2010, I went on to the University of Minnesota where I received my Master of Business Administration (MBA) and Master of Healthcare Administration (MHA) degrees. From there, I worked in Minneapolis as a consultant then manager within the health practice of the management consulting firm, Accenture. In 2016, I returned with my family to South Dakota where I am currently a clinic director for Avera Medical Group with responsibilities for Avera’s clinic operations in Brookings, Dell Rapids, and Flandreau.

How did your USD experience influence your career path?

My experience at USD allowed me to discover what I was passionate about, then provided me best-in-class resources, education, and experiences to pursue that passion. I arrived at USD the son of a small business owner and a pharmacist with an interest in both business and healthcare. I hadn’t given much thought to there being an intersection of the two until I discovered the health services administration program (HSAD) in the Business School. Once I began the HSAD program, the quality of the academics, the internships facilitated by the university, the supplemental experience provided by student organizations, and the availability and involvement of alumni all had a profoundly positive impact on my career path.

Tell us about your proudest achievement.

The thing in life that makes me most proud is being a supportive husband to my wife, Mackenzie (USD Class of 2009), and a devoted dad to my two sons, Noah (USD Class of 2038) and Jack (USD class of 2040).

What was your USD experience like? Were you involved in any campus organizations or activities?

I have many fond memories being involved in a variety of organizations like Adopt-a-Grandparent, Big Pal Little Pal, Delta Tau Delta, H.E.A.L, the University Honors Program, Intramural Sports, National Society of Collegiate Scholars, Order of Omega, Student Ambassadors, and The Volante Publication Board.
