What initially drew you to this industry?

What initially drew me to the social media and marketing industry was its dynamic and fast-paced nature. I thrive in an environment where things are constantly evolving, and this field is never stagnant. Every day presents new challenges, creative opportunities and the chance to collaborate with talented individuals who bring fresh perspectives. The variety of projects, the ability to tell compelling stories and the ever-changing landscape make it an exciting industry where no two days are the same - it's very hard to be bored!

I also have to give a huge shoutout to my former boss and professor, Hailie Warren. She played a pivotal role in shaping my career and solidifying my decision to pursue a career in marketing. Not only did she challenge me to grow personally and professionally, she also took chances on me, believed in my potential, and showed me just how exciting and impactful this industry can be. Her classes were the perfect mix of educational and fun, and the way she brought marketing to life made me want to dive headfirst into the field. She’s an absolute boss and I’m incredibly grateful for her guidance and influence!

What advice would you give to someone just starting their marketing career?

Your career doesn’t start after graduation, it starts now. Whether you’re still in school or just entering the industry, begin building your portfolio by creating, experimenting and gaining hands-on experience. Take on freelance projects, start a passion project or offer to manage social media for a local business. The more you immerse yourself in the work, the more you'll learn, grow and stand out. Social media moves fast, so being proactive, adaptable and continuously honing your skills will set you apart.

How do you balance work and personal life?

For me, balance comes from making time for the things that bring me joy outside of work. Whether it’s playing pickleball, mountain biking, traveling or going to concerts - prioritizing these activities allows me to reset and return to work with a fresh perspective and renewed creativity. One of my favorite quotes is, “A mind expanded by new experiences cannot return to the way it once was.” Taking time to explore and embrace new experiences enhances my personal life and fuels my creativity and passion for my work.

"I believe that staying engaged with your alma mater and its community not only strengthens your network, but also keeps you connected to the people and experiences that helped shape your journey."

What are some things you do to stay engaged with USD, fellow professionals and/or alumni?

I make it a point to return for Dakota Days each year, organizing watch parties in my hometown and reconnecting with fellow alumni. I stay in touch with many of my former professors, who played a significant role in my personal and professional growth. Staying engaged with your alma mater strengthens your network and keeps you connected to the people and experiences that helped shape your journey. I'm deeply grateful to USD for the opportunities that brought me to where I am today.

What are some things you've learned in your current role, or from your industry mentors?

One of the most valuable lessons I’ve learned in my current role is the importance of slowing down. In a fast-paced industry and living in an environment that is constantly moving, it’s easy to get caught up in the hustle, constantly moving from one project to the next. But taking the time to be present, appreciate the small wins and reflect on the journey is just as important as chasing the next goal. Some of the best ideas and moments of growth come when you step back, gain perspective and allow yourself to enjoy the process!
