Behind the Dean's Desk
Dean Klaus Beckmann
Beacom School of Business
What led you to this opportunity?
The University of South Dakota was my top choice when I was searching for an assistant professor position in the fall of 2016. Over time, I have built many close relationships and received tremendous support both within and outside the university, which has never led me to consider other opportunities. This is a great place to work, and I am excited to lead the business school and contribute to our mission and vision in any way I can.
How does your school help prepare students for what comes after graduation?
The Beacom School of Business is the premier business school in South Dakota and has maintained AACSB International accreditation since 1949. AACSB accreditation is considered the gold standard for business schools, and only 6% of business schools worldwide currently hold this distinction. This designation reflects that our faculty meet the highest standards in business education and that our students receive an exceptional education that prepares them for success after graduation.
In addition, we work closely with industry partners each day in a variety of ways to ensure that our curriculum and academic programs align with current employer needs.
What advice would you give to a first-year student walking onto campus for the first time?
Get involved in activities and student organizations across campus. Build relationships with fellow students and take advantage of all the opportunities the Beacom School of Business has to offer, including the Coyote Business Consulting and Global Immersion programs, as well as the many networking opportunities available throughout the year.
When you're not working, how do you like to spend your time?
I enjoy spending time outdoors and fixing things around the house.
Being a Coyote means ________.
