The Farber Funds
Think of the Possibilities
Dr. William O Farber (1910-2007) devoted more than 70 years of his life to political science students at the University of South Dakota. From his first year on campus in 1935 until his retirement in 1976—and for decades after—"Doc Farber" inspired generations of students to "Think of the possibilities!"
Thanks to the generous bequest in his will, along with ongoing support from alumni, students and friends, the Farber Funds were created to carry forward his enduring legacy. These funds support scholarships, research, travel and professional development for USD political science students.
WO Farber Internship & Travel Endowment
This endowment provides financial support for students to pursue internships and academic travel opportunities— whether in South Dakota, across the country or around the world. Students are encouraged to explore hands-on experiences that enhance their education and expand their worldview.
William O. Farber Scholarship Endowment
Awarded annually, these scholarships recognize outstanding students in the Department of Political Science for their academic excellence and leadership potential.
Farber Futures Endowment for Publications, Community Outreach and Farber House Maintenance
This fund supports student-led research projects, travel to academic conferences, and student organizations such as the Mock Trial and Model United Nations teams. It empowers students to take their learning beyond the classroom and into real-world environments.
Student and Faculty Assistance Fund
Flexible by design, this fund helps meet immediate and emerging needs for students in the department—especially those not covered by other designated funds.
*In addition to the Farber Funds, donors have established the Dr. William D. Richardson and Mary Pat Bierle Scholarship Endowments.
Continuing the Farber Legacy
Your contribution to any of these funds helps provide transformative experiences that prepare students for meaningful careers in public service, law, policy and more. With your support, today's students can carry on the Farber tradition of leadership and impact, at USD and far beyond. Thank you for helping shape the next generation of changemakers.
