Kelly Stewart, University of South Dakota alumna and former women’s basketball standout, has been named director of development for the Twin Cities region. In this role, she will help strengthen alumni engagement and philanthropic support in one of USD’s most active alumni communities.

“It’s an incredible feeling to give back to the place that gave me so much,” Stewart said. “This role brings together two parts of my story—my roots at USD and my lifelong ties to the Twin Cities. I’m excited to engage with fellow Coyotes, strengthen alumni involvement and help build something meaningful that bridges our community with the university’s mission.”

A native of Amery, Wisconsin, Stewart earned both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from USD while serving as a team captain for the Coyotes’ women’s basketball program. She played a key leadership role in several historic seasons, including USD’s 2016 WNIT Championship win.

Since graduating, Stewart has built a multifaceted career that blends experience in sports media, communications and organizational development. She brings a strong network, a passion for storytelling and a deep commitment to student success to her new role.

As part of the USD Foundation & Alumni Association’s strategic efforts to enhance outreach in key regions, Stewart will lead development and alumni relations in the Twin Cities area—home to a robust and growing base of Coyote alumni and supporters.

“The Twin Cities are home to an incredible community of proud USD alumni and supporters,” said Stewart. “I’m excited to strengthen those connections, listen and learn from their stories and help create opportunities that positively impact current and future students.”

Stewart will be based in Minneapolis and will represent USD at regional events, donor visits and alumni gatherings throughout the area.
