Deb Peters – Public Service

Deb Peters Deb Peters graduated from USD in 1997 with a bachelor of business administration with an emphasis in accounting. Professionally, Deb is a certified public accountant and owner of a consulting firm, Central Valley Accounting Solutions. But, Deb’s passion led her to the South Dakota Legislature, where she has served the past eight in the Senate and previously in the House of Representative from 2005-2010. She is the primary sponsor of 2016 Senate Bill 106, which won States the right to collect sales tax from internet retailers in a United States Supreme Court decision. The decision overturned two previous Supreme Court cases dating back to 1967 and 1992. She is currently the immediate past-president of the National Conference of State Legislatures and co-chair of

the Governmental Operations and Audit Committee. Deb has also been the national president of the Streamlined Sales Tax Governing Board, dedicated to assisting states to administer a simpler and more uniform sales and use tax system. Deb was previously recognized by the Wall Street Journal as a Top 40 Under 40, received the USD Accounting and Finance Division’s Outstanding Service Award in 2015, delivered the 2014 Winter Commencement address and was the 2016 honoree for Governing Magazine’s, “Public Official of the Year.”
